Create It: Try New Things

Thanks to these damaging stigmas, people suffering from mental illness often have to contend not only with their disorder, but with the stereotypes and discriminations of others. Common preconceptions surrounding BPD include the belief that sufferers are always overly dramatic, manipulative and attention-seeking. While these traits can appear in sufferers of BPD, the truth is far more complex. In this article, we will take a look at the realities of borderline personality disorder, analyzing exactly what the illness is and the types of behaviors it can lead to. In part one, we will look closely at both the overt and more subtle symptoms associated with BPD, to assist you in determining whether you or a loved one may be afflicted. We will also examine the underlying causes of the disorder, and the different forms of BPD can take. Methods of diagnosis will also be discussed. However, the fluffier and puffier spa treatments can't bring change to the lower levels of the skin. They can boost your skin's circulation, help with lymphatic drainage and maybe exfoliate a bit if they're using acids but little else can be done from them. Get spa facials if you want them - I love them too but they serve a different purpose to many of the other treatments I get. Just remember that results-driven salon and clinical facials are often more effective when it comes to skin health. They're not all `fluff puff' now either. Spa brands are bringing in modalities to manipulate tissue and stimulate circulation so they're bringing blood and oxygen to the area, toning the muscle and having anti-ageing effects. They have upped their game and they definitely have a place within the skincare industry - it just depends on personal preferences Finding a Therapist People shouldn't be doing peels without ITEC, VTCT, CIBTAC or CIDESCO certifications in beauty therapy or advanced skincare so ask about that in the salon. Look up reviews and feel out for word of mouth recommendations among your skin-savvy friends. So what if you have been diagnosed with BPD? Does this mean you no longer have the potential to live a normal and fulfilling life? Does it mean you have to conform to the stereotypes of being unstable, angry and helpless?

Of course not. With the right tools and treatment, BPD can be managed effectively, allowing you to have a rewarding career, close friendships and meaningful relationships. In part two, we will look at the many tools you can employ to keep the disorder under control. We'll take a look at effective methods for handling unpredictable emotions, along with specific therapies often used in managing the disorder. Of course, relating to your loved ones can be a huge challenge when faced with BPD. Thanks to the violent mood swings and unpredictable behavior associated with BPD, it is likely you will fear unintentionally hurting those you care about. In order to manage this, we will take a look at the things it's important for your loved ones to know in order to help you cope with BPD. If you come across a salon that you haven't heard a lot about but want to give a try anyway, ensure that they carry out a detailed consultation, asking about your skin's past and present, and your future goals. Questions should be plentiful, thorough and explained. A plan of action should be decided, including a mutually agreed realistic timeline. A good consultation means that you'll be encouraged to explain everything about your skin rather than just required to put down your name and signature and jump into a practised retail spiel. Rather than you simply saying `my skin is oily' and being given a salicylic cleanser, in a thorough consultation, you'll be asked where the oiliness appears, if anything has changed in your life or skin of late, if you are exfoliating and other questions in this vein. Maybe the answer will be that you were actually over-exfoliating so you might be advised to stop exfoliating for a while, after which the consultant will put you on a new skincare routine. The difference is that you and your skin are prioritised over making a sale there and then. Rapport is essential and once you trust your advisor, keep them! You are the client, you deserve to be knowledgeable after the time with your skin specialist. In case I've given you the wrong impression, skin doesn't just appear on our face. Our guide will help you explain your illness to your family, friends and partner, helping them to understand and empathize with what you are experiencing. Following these guidelines will assist you in creating a secure and loving support network, making the disorder more manageable. As we have touched on, borderline personality disorder can be just as difficult for loved ones as it can be the sufferer themselves.

Perhaps your family member, child, parent or partner has been diagnosed with BPD and you're struggling to know how to react. Perhaps that's why you picked up this article. In part three, we will take a close look at how to cope when those close to you are suffering from this disorder. We will examine how to speak to those with BPD in order to avoid conflict, and ways to manage being a relationship with a BPD sufferer. As people with BPD can often be manipulative, or emotionally aggressive, it can be just as important to take care of yourself in such situations. We will look closely at ways to disarm those who are attempting to manipulate you, in order to facilitate a harmonious relationship for both parties. And if you decide that, for whatever reason, the relationship has no future, we will address ways of breaking up with a BPD sufferer in order to produce the minimum amount of conflict and distress. It's a full body situation and as such, we need to consider not just facial skincare but everywhere else too. Here I will give an overview on skin beyond the face, common issues and things to be mindful of. Neck and Decolletage First up, do we treat our neck and chest the same way we treat our face? Yes, we should. One of our catchphrases at Nerd HQ is `nipples up'. This is something I heard years ago and it has stayed with me ever since. What we mean by saying this is that the tissue on the neck, decolletage and upper breasts can defy time and gravity if attention is given to them. So, make sure that you don't forget about these areas when it comes to skincare. Your face, neck and decolletage are a delicate area of thinner skin than the rest of your body and they are the most likely to be exposed to sun on a regular basis so they deserve slightly better treatment. Living with BPD does not have to be a life sentence. Following the advice provided will help both BPD sufferers and their loved ones have and a happy and fulfilling life. Understanding Borderline Personality

What is Borderline Personality Disorder? Borderline personality disorder, or BPD, is a pattern of mental behavior that causes sufferers to have difficulty controlling their emotions and impulses. Thanks to their often aggressive and unpredictable behavior, with BPD will often experience many unstable relationships in all aspects of their lives. BPD causes sufferers to feel uncomfortable in themselves and exhibit strong emotional reactions to seemingly routine events and circumstances. They live though a pattern of extreme emotional highs and lows. Borderline personality is so-named as people suffering from the disorder were originally believed to be on the borderline between psychosis (difficulties determining what is real) and neurosis (a mild mental illness largely characterized by depression, anxiety). People with BPD often experience high levels of anger and distress and take offence easily. The hands give our age away as we usually never apply sunscreen, antioxidants or any other products to them so my advice would be to pump out a little more product than is necessary for the face, neck and decolletage, applying the excess to the back of the hands. Definitely make a point of applying SPF to the hands. If you want to go one step further, use an acid-infused hand cream for super soft hands like Murad Rejuvenating AHA Hand Cream. For hands that are showing signs of ageing, opt for IPL or apply a lightening treatment such as the Neostrata Enlighten Pigment Lightening Gel. And wear gloves when doing mundane household chores. Lips need care too - it is also skin. We should be using SPF lip balm on the daily and exfoliating them mildly with a mix of coconut oil and a fine sugar. Those with cold sores should take care when it comes to lip scrubs as physical trauma to your lips can trigger a cold sore. Supplement L-Lysine is particularly good for cold sores, but if they are a regular occurrence for you, consult your doctor. Most serums can be applied to your lips, so don't go out of your way to avoid the lips when applying. Sufferers struggle with a low sense of self-esteem, having regular painful thoughts about themselves and others. Unsurprisingly, this often leads to ongoing problems in their family and social life. This low sense of self-worth and regular stream of negative thoughts can lead to self-harming and, in severe cases, suicide.

Many people with BPD live their lives with an ongoing pattern of unstable social relationships. They are prone to developing intense, almost obsessive attachments to others, which can change almost without warning to feelings of intense anger and dislike for the same person. This fluctuation from extreme to another is highly indicative of borderline personality disorder. BPD appears in approximately 2% of the general population, with women three times more likely to suffer from the disorder than men. BPD usually appears during the teen years, with symptoms gradually improving as sufferers go through life. The causes of BPD are unclear, but can be traced to environmental, social, neurological and genetic factors. BPD can also be sparked by difficult life events such as childhood trauma. Avoid acid usage on lips if you get cold sores, some have found that it can trigger them - the heat or inflammation caused can set up the virus. We eat our lips and lick them so be mindful of them as they are made up of a reactive response membrane. Everywhere Else Supplements (p. Acid-based exfoliators are just as important for the body as for the `nipples up' area, especially for those with spots on their body and keratosis pilaris (see below). You should exfoliate your whole body - bar any areas that you wouldn't want to put an acid exfoliant on, if you get what I mean. No scrubs though. Mechanical exfoliation causes micro-tears to the skin, especially cumulatively, so opt for acid-based or enzyme-based body lotions and exfoliators. You can exfoliate your body once or twice a week and that should be enough. I'd also recommend doing it after you shave or wax to prevent ingrown hairs, as it will clear the dead skin cells from blocking the now shorter hair's way. Many experts believe the illness is brought about by a combination of factors, such as genetic and environmental. Drug and alcohol abuse, depression and eating disorders are all commonly associated with borderline personality disorder. Sufferers of BPD often experience other mental illnesses in conjunction with the disorder, such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, or bipolar disorder.
