Tithonus Revisited

Variation: Resourcing with Your Anxiety If you're dealing with intense anxiety, you can focus inside yourself and find an area in your body that feels calm and grounded right now -- not to repress your anxiety, but to open your focus to include the physical sense of unhurried stability that exists inside you during anxious times. This may help your anxiety take a moment and focus its genius on what's important. This is a simple practice, but as you and your anxiety become friends and partners, your anxiety will learn to take your lead when you need to calm and soothe yourself. With Resourcing, you can care for yourself without repressing your anxiety or treating it as a problem. Resourcing opens your options and your awareness, and it treats your emotions with love and respect. Resourcing doesn't repress the fact of what you're experiencing. Instead, Resourcing helps you connect to other facts, which are that more than one thing is going on and that you always have the resources you need to deal with whatever confronts you. Resourcing is naturally grounding and focusing, and it helps you set internal boundaries around emotional and social stimuli. With Resourcing, you can feel a powerful emotion and also sense the calming strength of (for instance) your calves. For instance, if you fear being diagnosed with Parkinson's down the road, learning about the stats on who gets PD and what the risk factors are may help you. I sometimes go down the road of, If I get Parkinson's, who will take care of me? How will I pay for all my medical costs? Will I end up with dementia in the end? These are all legit questions, and the first two I can somewhat plan for if I choose to, which helps ease my fear. I can't control whether or not I get dementia, though, so worrying about that is just wasted time and energy. Mom used to fear that she'd get trapped in the house in a fire or tornado when she was immobile and nobody would be there to help her out. This fear may appear dramatic, but I understood the helplessness she felt when her PD made her stuck in place, so I assured her over and over again that someone would be there to help her in an emergency. Our minds tend to dwell on worst-case scenarios, but the worst may not happen at all. Fox once said, If you imagine the worst-case scenario, and it comes true, you've lived it twice.

They can become insulated from new, emerging paradigms and knowledge outside that area. Specialization, especially in medicine, treats different parts separately and loses track of the whole. I had a friend who had massive pain in his heart area. He went to a gastroenterologist clutching his His chest pain was so great he could barely get through the exam. After the doctor told him there was nothing wrong with his esophagus or stomach, that he'd be fine and shouldn't worry, he was unable leave the office for hours due to intense pains in his chest. He died that night of a heart attack. Even without medical training, who besides a specialist wouldn't have considered that this man clutching his heart was having a heart attack? We know a great deal about how to heal the brain. Psychiatry, in one of medicine's great ironies, generally leads in the opposite direction, weakening instead of healing the brain. Black Licorice Other Color To-Dos Protect Your Investment Now that you're invested in color, you want it to last. This means using shampoos and conditioners created especially for color-treated hair (see Brilliant Buys). Since color can be drying, these products are formulated to give color-treated hair extra moisture and not to overly strip the hair with detergent. I know this sounds like marketing spin, but these products are actually milder and more buffered than standard shampoos And don't use them every day; It's best if you can get away with washing your hair just twice a week. Be Proactive

The pranamaya kosha, coupled with the five organs of action, forms this energy layer; The energy body is what causes you to walk into a room and not have to speak, where your mere presence draws attention from the entire room. The energy body is what you see and/or feel when you meet a person who looks as if they are shiny, radiant, and grounded. The energy body is what is referred to as your electromagnetic field; I'm going to share with you a story from the Upanishads, the Vedic ancient texts, to help you better understand the functionality of the energy body: The five main faculties of our nature - the mind, breath (prana), speech, hearing, and sight - were arguing about which was the most important. To resolve the dispute, they decided that each would leave the body to see whose absence was missed most. First speech left, yet the body continued to flourish though it was mute. Next the eye departed, yet the body flourished though blind. Then the ear left, yet the body thrived though deaf. We discussed the values and the ways they would be acted out in our work. How did the meetings go? There were some real surprises at first. We didn't know that we had been operating under differing assumptions until we were involved in the process. As we tried to agree on ways we would operate and treat each other, we kept getting blocked. Once we started discussing the values and listening to each other, as the directions told us to do, our eyes were opened. Defining what was meant by certain key value words became the most important part of the exercise. Again and again, continued Janet, I heard people say, 'I never dreamed you looked at it that way! The validating process was like a magnet passing over us, leaving us all aligned in unison. But that must have taken a lot of work time, Marvin said.

This is the best way to silence your critics. They are not expecting that! They are waiting for you to contradict them, to feel bad, to get offended. When you agree with them, they won't know how to respond. In what areas of your life are you too hard on yourself? It's easy to fall into the habit of self-criticism because of past mistakes or because things didn't work out as you wanted them to. But does it serve you? No, NADA, zip! It's time you accept something here: You are not perfect! You never will be, and - the best thing is - YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE! Your Heart Thought for Day 8: I Embrace My Inner Child with Love Take care of your inner child. It is the child who is frightened. It is the child who is hurting. It is the child who does not know what to do. Be there for your child. Embrace it and love it and do whatever you can to take care of its needs. Be sure to let your child know that no matter what happens, you will always be there for it. You will never turn away or desert it. You will always love this child.

Negative Thinking There is a lot that we have discussed concerning how your thoughts determine who you are. Thinking negatively will likely corrupt your mind with feelings of frustration. This means that you are likely to feel anxious since you worry too much about the worst that can happen. Financial Concerns With the harsh economic times, it is daunting to prevent yourself from thinking too much about your finances. This becomes a major problem when you have debts to pay and everything appears out of hand. To deal with triggers relating to finances, you should consider seeking professional assistance. In addition to the triggers discussed above, everyday stressors can also cause anxiety. For instance, when missing important deadlines, you will worry about the potential loss of something important. Don't you think this would be easier, and moreover better for the long run? HERE ARE SOME COMMON ATTITUDES that make no logical sense: I am richer than you, therefore a better person. Or: I am better educated than you, therefore a better person. The conclusion simply does not follow from the premise. What does follow? I am richer than you, therefore I have more money. Or: I am better educated than you, therefore I can speak better. But you are neither money nor speech. You are a person capable of making decisions. And it is only by the quality of those decisions that you ought to be judged, or to judge yourself.
