Love Yourself

My assignment editor said, Hey, do you want to go and get some video with a cameraperson and maybe do a story on this? I jumped at the chance. There was maybe a couple of thousand dollars' worth of damage. No one had been hurt. Let's explore some common scenarios. Gifts for Teachers If you have kids, they likely have teachers, and you now have many opportunities to be stressed out about getting them gifts. Teacher Appreciation Day, Christmas, and the last day of school are the big three. Multiply that number by how many kids you have, and wow! It's a circus of last-minute Starbucks gift cards and homemade sugar scrubs you don't have time for. Instead, decide once. Choose now what you'll get every teacher for every occasion. For Christmas, I give a article. For the last day of school, I write a heartfelt thank-you note, possibly accompanied by a drawing or note from my kid. Notice how your chest expands as you breathe in, and how it contracts as you breathe out. Sit quietly noticing these things, how the air feels cooler going in and warmer as you breathe out. It is okay to notice other sensations--a pain in your neck, a tickle in your throat, the sounds outside, or the smells coming from the kitchen. Notice them without judgment, and then return your attention to the breath. If your mind wanders to a thought, plan, or worry, you don't need to push it away. Just gently let it go, and return again to the breath.

If it is helpful to you, you can count each breath--breathing in and breathing out, count one; Continue breathing and noticing what comes up for five minutes or so, returning always to the breath. When you are ready, gently open your eyes, stretch your legs, perhaps thank yourself for giving yourself this gift of mindful presence, and return to your day. Mindfulness in Everyday Life Focusing on the positives can help manage your stress levels, improve your relationships, ease some of the burdens you place on yourself, and give you the freedom to enjoy life, whatever that might look like to you. Just for shits and giggles, I asked myself about the positive aspects of menopause, and I realized there were many--despite everything I had experienced and continue to experience. For starters, my periods are over, which is a huge money-saver and convenience. I hardly have any hair growing on my body anymore, and I love that I barely need to shave my legs or underarms (though I am concerned about getting a hairy face; I'm not sure how positive I'll feel if I start to look like Nanny McPhee! During perimenopause, as my hormones fluctuated, my boobs actually got bigger; Lastly and more seriously, an amazing sense of calm has descended on me. It took its time arriving, but now it is here and I feel so much happier. The ability to stop sweating the small stuff feels like a gift from the gods. I have developed more patience with and empathy for my children's anxieties and troubles. Sleep restriction is the most radical and challenging part of the Fast Asleep program. The other key elements are: Eating to establish a sleepy biome Improving your sleep hygiene--your sleep environment (ie, your bedroom) and your habits around sleep If you've read my article The Clever Gut Diet, you will know just how fascinated I am by the microbiome, the trillions of microbes that live in our guts. We've known for some time how important these microbes are for controlling our immune system and our appetite.

Now there is new and very compelling evidence that they also have a big role to play in regulating stress and how we sleep. Among the thousand different species that live in their dark lair in the large intestine, there are good ones and bad ones. The good ones, also known as the Old Friends, have evolved with us over hundreds of thousands of years and work hard to keep us healthy. Among other things, they manufacture 95% of the body's serotonin. Lay the three cups out in a line. Place the ball or object beneath one of the cups while the children watch. Switch the position of the cups, changing their order. Challenge the child to pick the cup that they believe the object rests beneath. If you are playing this game with multiple children, have them break into pairs to challenge one another with the cups. This meditation will teach children the importance of experiencing the world around them with all of their senses. You will guide little ones along an adventure that promises to excite and educate the participating kids. This activity will also make use of your audience's incredible imagination. Bring a sweet-scented floral candle to light (sneakily) during the meditation to better engage the children in their surroundings. Pick a quiet room where you will be able to dim the lights for this activity. History of Parkinson's may also spell a history of drug abuse or indicate that one has been exposed to environmental toxins for too long. Recent research has suggested that vitamin D deficiencies may increase people's odds of developing dementia. This study found that people who spent most of their time inside experienced a faster pace of cognitive decline. This is why people in countries in the Northern Hemisphere must consider taking vitamin D supplements to keep their levels boosted. People that live in countries in the Southern Hemisphere rarely have vitamin D deficiencies because of the longer periods of sunlight that regularly warm these countries. Since vitamin D is one of the only vitamins that humans can produce naturally through ultraviolet ray absorption from sunlight, it is needed for people that don't want to take extra supplementation.

Understanding Dementia There are multiple factors that one needs to understand when they are facing an illness like dementia. Many people are very scared of the potential of developing an illness that causes a cognitive decline with passing time, and many people choose to stay in denial than actually dealing with their problem. To understand dementia, one needs to first grasp that dementia is not a single illness or problem. Organize and structure You are organizing data to boost memory. Researchers have found that information in related clusters is organized in memory. By organizing and structuring the materials you are studying, you can take advantage of this. To help group related concepts, try grouping similar concepts and terms together, or create an outline of your notes and textarticle readings. Using mnemonic devices To boost memory, use mnemonics. Mnemonic devices are a tool frequently used to aid recall by students. A mnemonic is simply a way for information to be remembered. You might equate a word you need to remember, for instance, with a common item that you are very familiar with. When fears last beyond the expected age, it can be a sign that someone is too scared, worried, or anxious. People whose fears are too intense or lasts too long may need help and support to overcome them. What Makes Us Fearful? Certain things cause fear in most of us; Common fear triggers: Moods And Disorders

Persistent fear can sometimes be called anxiety if we continuously feel worried without knowing why. The inability to identify the trigger prevents us from removing ourselves, or the actual threat, from the situation. Recognizing Fear Facial Expression You'll eventually be faced with the same decision I had: either let your past control you or decide to control your past. Don't get sucked into the should-of-could-of game; You've made mistakes--so had I. But I chose to change, to leave the mistakes behind and become a better me. Not a person on the planet can claim to be free of past mistakes. You can live in turmoil, rehashing what you wish you'd done instead. Or, you can look at mistakes as your greatest teachers, the lessons that showed you what you don't want to be. Ask yourself this question: what would my life look like if I could move on to the next article and leave my mistakes and disappointments in the distant past? I am fairly sure you would breathe a sigh of relief and adopt a more optimistic view of the future. Let the haunting end. One of the key aspects that makes social occasions fun is surely that we don't know exactly what's going to happen. Who wants a party to be predictable? Nevertheless, these questions raise fears within us and so we reach for our little crutch to quell those fears. We have been brainwashed into believing that alcohol gives us courage. The term Dutch courage originates from the days when English troops were given Dutch gin to calm their nerves before going into battle. There's an important distinction here: it may well have calmed their nerves by knocking out those particular emotions, but it didn't give them anything, least of all courage.
