Be Early To Rise

Our Dreams May Remind Our Parents of What They Lost You can be sure that there were childhood moments when your motivation came up against the very thing in your parents which was the absolutely cannot be of the parents' existence, the parts of themselves they thought they had to give up in order to be accepted in their families. This is what Linda was bumping up against in her mother's negativity. When Linda showed her passion about her pursuits, her mother was subconsciously reminded of all that she had given up to get married and become a wife and mother. Changing your diet can give you many physical benefits, but it can also help you activate your vagus nerve. In general, you want to eat heart-healthy foods since your heart is connected to the vagus nerve. Heart-healthy foods include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and oily fish. Some of these foods are rich in omega 3s. Omega 3s can help with your heart rate and vagal tone, so foods rich in it can be very beneficial for your body and vagus nerve. Beyond heart-healthy foods, you should consider adding foods that help your gut microbiota. This hasn't been touched on in a while, but remember how your vagus nerve is connected to your gut so that you have a visceral response to your environment? Well, improving your gut microbiota can help with increasing your vagus response. Foods with probiotics in them can be especially helpful. Probiotics were found to help people regulate their mood and reduce their stress and cortisol levels (Breit et al. To merely know that all things are happening of their own accord, with no external cause, begins to disassemble the illusion of dualism, which presumes a doer. The difficulty with most spiritual students is that they are stuck in the Newtonian paradigm of reality, in which there is a this causing a that. This dualistic belief system is at the core of the ego and is the very source of thinking that there is a separate individual I. There is no separate personal I talking here. Because of an audience or readership, the field, which is the Presence, speaks back to Itself as Itself, and I as a speaker or writer have nothing to do with it. Many years ago, the personal self disappeared, and the mind became silent, a state that continues to this day.

The Infinite Presence is so powerful that it extinguishes anything that is not Itself. Q: How can I understand my life with no I? A: Don't try! You'll only get stuck in a concept you call nonduality. Before her marriage to a man whose family was extraordinarily devoted to keeping up appearances, Linda's mother was a budding concert pianist who used to practice hours at a time, inhabiting a world of her own. Because Linda's father was annoyed by her mother's time spent at the piano, her mother gave up her potential career and tried hard to fit into her new husband's family. Tragically, instead of trying to produce perfect music, all she had left was to try to produce perfect children - children who would please her husband's socially conscious family. Therefore when Linda started expressing her joyful, self-absorbed motivation in adolescence, her mother's envy flared up and she reflexively reacted to shut down her daughter's spirit. If there were unfinished dreams that our parents were never able to live out, they are often suppressed and become secrets kept within the family. If as a child you inadvertently bumped into this tender old wound in your parent's psyche, you intuitively sensed how badly they'd been hurt. Somewhere in your mind, you may have feared what it might do to your parent at a deep level if you followed your truest dreams. You might have worried that by becoming your real self, you might bring suffering to the people you loved. Fearing Parents' Retaliations Of course, you also may have feared actual retaliation from authority figures if you started growing and succeeding too much. So consider adding probiotic foods like yogurt, miso, and kimchi to your diet. All of these can help you improve your vagal tone and reduce your stress levels. Supportive Relationships The final self-help technique for improving your vagal tone is to create and maintain supportive relationships. This is because there is an interconnection between the vagus and our social responses. When the polyvagal theory was discussed earlier, it was mentioned how the ventral vagus was our means for social engagement.

Because of this, if we want to improve our vagal tone, then making social connections can help. When we have supportive people around us, our ventral vagus nerve remains active and promotes feelings of well-being and safety. So social connections can improve our vagus nerve's response. You've reached the end of this article and you've gained the ability to control and activate your vagus nerve to reach a state of calm. Truth is not a concept but a realization. Merely by hearing that everything emerges spontaneously by virtue of what is, you have nothing to do but begin to notice it. You don't have to think about it or figure out its meaning. Simply begin to notice that everything is happening spontaneously by virtue of what it is and that nothing causes anything. In the state of pure consciousness, all projections cease, and everything is revealed to be perfectly that which it is. In Reality, you see that the meaning of any thing is what it is. That is its meaning. Its meaning is what it is. What's the meaning of a giraffe? The meaning of a giraffe is to be a giraffe. This is particularly true for people whose parents were critical, easily offended, and often angry. Such fears of retaliation can give you a familiar jolt of anxiety when you start feeling too creative. Taking steps toward your true destiny can sometimes irrationally make you feel like something bad is going to happen. These anxieties about how the world might react to our freedom and success are nearly always rooted in painful experiences in the past, as Linda had come to realize. All her life, Linda's love of art and desire for physical accomplishment had been torn down by parents who could not find it in themselves to support her joy. Every time she had tried to emerge into the next step of her development, there was interference.

She had learned hopelessness in many ways over many years, but the simple and basic message was: become your real self and you risk an attack. Two Steps Forward, One Step Back As Linda began to understand what had been holding her back, she found herself becoming increasingly fascinated by a renewed interest in painting. First, she painted in her garage, using small craft materials and telling herself that she did not want to clutter up her home with her art stuff. The vagus nerve is like a little magic button in your body that you can press anytime you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, or depressed. It's one of the key parts of your parasympathetic nervous system and helps to ensure that your sympathetic nervous system doesn't stay active all the time. Activating the vagus nerve isn't hard, and it can be easily done to help you feel calm and safe. The stories we tell ourselves of what we've done with our lives make up our experiences. They tell us who we are attached to, who we've been touching in our lives, and who's been affecting us. Our memories, in short, are vital to the core of who we are as human beings. That means that loss of memory related to age may reflect a loss of self. The practical side of life is often affected, such as getting around the neighborhood or knowing how to reach a loved one. It is not surprising, then, that worries about deteriorating thought and memory capacities rank among the top fears that individuals have as they age. Although some remain sharp as a pin, what causes certain people to lose their memory? Q: You've said that creation and evolution are one and the same. How can that be? A: What one witnesses is potentiality continuously emerging as creation. Evolution is creation. Traditional religion has separated the two, implying that God finished creation after a week and then said Bye-bye. I'll see you on Judgment Day!

It holds that God created the universe, threw the ball, and said, Good luck, folks. Hope you make it! In Reality, creation is continuous, which means that potentiality within creation is becoming an actuality, and you are witnessing the emergence. You're not even witnessing change. When the weather got colder, I began to hear about the large canvases that were taking over her dining room, because there was so much room in there and she liked a warm place to work. Just as importantly, Linda spontaneously began to reconnect with memories of her childhood fascinations: insects, leaf collecting, a love of animals, and a sensitivity to color that was visceral. She began to remember who she was meant to be: an artist and an inquisitive lover of learning. As Linda began again to pick up her abandoned interests, she felt surges of energy and motivation that were very strong and rewarding. However, she also experienced many periods of lost confidence, in which she slipped back into critical feelings about herself and felt a sense of fatigued hopelessness. Usually these episodes could be traced back to some demoralizing contact with her parents or an insensitive friend, and once Linda began to realize the specific reason why she had started losing hope, her motivation quickly returned. When Linda was in a depressive backslide, however, it felt very real to her. Even after a period of personal growth and sustained success in knowing her true self, she was still capable of temporarily slipping into the following frame of mind she described in one of our sessions: I don't feel like I have an anchor anymore. What can I do today not to fall in this big hole of despair? Genes play a role, but choices do as well. Following a balanced diet, exercising regularly, not smoking, and keeping blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar in check include proven ways to preserve memory. It is necessary, too, to live a mentally active life. Mental exercise helps maintain mental skills and memory in tone, just as muscles get stronger with use. Are certain brain work types more efficient than others? Better than being a mental couch potato, any brain workout is better.
